Congrats if you had "Ryan Walters Calling For His Own Impeachment" on your "Only in Oklahoma" bingo card!
This past Friday morning, while everyone in the state was mentally recovering from a long back-to-school week, Ryan Langston-Walters – our diabolical Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Prayer, Indoctrination, and Edumacation – announced he was holding an emergency press conference at 1:15 p.m. at the Capitol to make a "Major Announcement."
The news quickly spread across the informed-Oklahoman social media sphere like a back-to-school virus, with everyone wildly speculating about Ryan’s announcement.
Was he stepping down to accept the role of Dean at Prager U? Did he find dirty images that Joe Biden drew in the back of a library book?! Was he adding crucifixion and gladiator battles as a form of corporal punishment?!
Nope, he didn’t do anything that cool.
Instead, we got a “LOOK AT ME!” press conference where Ryan dared House Speaker Charles McCall – who, like Ryan, is a presumed 2026 Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate – to try and impeach him.
You know, typical contrived political theater stuff.
Ryan’s grandstanding was a response to the letter that a couple dozen GOP state reps have signed calling for an impeachment investigation, as well as recent news that the Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency (a.k.a. the group that helped expose the Swadley’s Foggy Bottom Swindle) will investigate spending concerns within the agency he leads.

Oklahoma’s top education official has dared the state House to begin impeachment proceedings against him.
Standing outside the House chamber at the Capitol, state Superintendent Ryan Walters said recent calls for an investigation into his leadership at the Oklahoma State Department of Education are mere political attacks by lawmakers eying higher office.
He urged House lawmakers to begin the impeachment process Monday morning by presenting any evidence against him to the state Senate. He said doing so would give Oklahomans clarity and put an end to lies about him.
‘We do not need to wait on an investigation,’ Walters said after abruptly calling a news conference Friday afternoon. ‘It is time to start the proceedings immediately.”
Yep, that’s right. Ryan Walters – the guy whose entire political schtick is launching political attacks as he eyes higher office – is accusing lawmakers of doing the exact same thing. Good to know, huh?
We talked a bit about the GOP movement to launch an impeachment investigation, the Walters-McCall-Drummond gubernatorial dynamic, and other fun things in "Are The Walls Finally Closing In on Ryan Walters?" so I won’t rehash them here.
But I’ve got to ask: “What the hell is Ryan Walters doing?!”
Is this just another desperate bid for attention as he eyes higher office? Is he trying to deflect and distract from a bigger issue? Or is he angling to go down as a martyr among Christian Nationalists, alt-right crazies, and homeschool moms who teach science from the Bible and churn out goat milk soap while also scoring unemployment benefits?
I don’t know the answer to that question yet, but I do know that Ryan calling for his own impeachment investigation feels like a cheating husband daring his wife to check his texts, emails, and DMs—knowing full well that all the dirty messages have been deleted or stashed on a burner phone.
That's a move that never ends well, and usually just leads to anger, distrust, and the wife having a revenge affair with a local coffee shop owner.
After Ryan's initial rambling statement, where he accused McCall of wanting “to impeach me for political advantage in the 2026 governor’s race,” he took questions from befuddled reporters, where he lied and complained that he wasn’t, himself, running for governor in 2026:
Charles McCall is concerned about running for governor in 2026. My focus is the education system for our kids. My focus is ensuring this is the greatest school year we’ve ever had for the kids of Oklahoma,” Walters said. “I could care less about future elections—not on my radar whatsoever.”
Yep, the 2026 election isn’t on Ryan’s radar, even though he just held a lengthy press conference accusing lawmakers who are simply doing their jobs of being concerned about the 2026 election. I’m not sure what radar Ryan is using – Doppler, Nexrad, or First Alert – but he better get it checked out because it’s not picking up his own hook echo.
After the press conference, which was held in a public building, Ryan – along with his squatty propaganda chief – left to go burn books, research trans athletes, or whatever it is they do after leaving work a bit early on a Friday.
Unbeknownst to them, they were tracked down by KFOR’s daring, turbo-charged reporter Dylan Brown. He wanted to know why Ryan and his propaganda team continually shut out KFOR from all the fun.
Ryan responded to Dylan’s rapid-fire questioning like he’d just found a Harbor Mountain Coffee Shop to-go cup on his kitchen counter – “Ohhh, no-no-no-no-no-no-no!” – while his squatty PR chief and personal bodyguard Dan Isett softly pushed Dylan and blocked his path.
Check this out:
First of all, I’m surprised Ryan didn’t have his personal security detail on hand at the event. Remember when he brought them to the 2023 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony, where they hid behind the curtains ready for a rogue teacher union terrorist to strike?
Naturally, some nanny state folks freaked out on social media and accused Dan of assaulting Dylan. I wouldn’t go that far, but Dan should definitely be shamed and mocked – just like he was in high school gym class – for his unprofessional behavior.
Meanwhile, Dylan should receive a Pay it 4Ward nomination for not doing what I would have done, which is pushback and probably make the situation worse.
Later in the day, after the tempers and nut-jobbery died down, Speaker McCall addressed Ryan’s demand for his own impeachment investigation.
Instead of being a catfish and biting the human hand that entered his lair, McCall issued a measured statement that called out Ryan’s stunt for what it was—political theater:
“As Speaker of the House, I remain steadfast in my position: I will not overturn the will of the people, regardless of any demands made.
While Superintendent Walters may desire a path toward his own impeachment, my focus is firmly on the LOFT investigation into the Oklahoma State Department of Education. This investigation is about ensuring taxpayer dollars are properly allocated, not targeting individuals. It is essential we understand why school districts are not receiving their required funding.
My advice to Superintendent Walters is to prioritize getting resources to Oklahoma schools and improving our state’s education rankings, rather than engaging in political theatrics.”
Then, over the weekend, as politicos and local media tried to unpack what was happening, the third amigo in this prelude to the 2026 gubernatorial election – Oklahoma AG Gentner Drummond – entered the fray.
He issued a strongly worded, legally-binding Attorney General's opinion on the issue that sparked the initial GOP calls for a House impeachment investigation – Ryan’s decision to block security funding to schools.
He made sure to include a not-so-subtle rebuke of the State Superintendent:
In a strange way, I do think Ryan is half-right in his complaint.
Drummond and McCall are both definitely making political moves and looking ahead to 2026, but that doesn’t mean what they’re doing isn’t justified.
Ryan is one of the most corrupt, maniacal, and deceitful politicians this state has ever seen. From House Committees to the Attorney Generals office to local psychiatry groups, it's totally within their rights and duties to investigate him, even when it's politically advantageous.
