There’s been yet another shake-up at the News 9 morning show!
With a new season of Severe Weather Theatre right around the corner, News 9 announced that longtime bus stop weather forecast hypeman Jed Castles is leaving the weekday morning show to serve as a “Field Meteorologist” in the station’s storm-chasing squadron.
In this new role, Jed will essentially be News 9’s version of KOCO’s Michael Armstrong, playing the part of a calm and steady meteorologist who lags behind the storm chasers and helicopters to provide scientific “field observations” of meteorological conditions and the deadly storms they produce.
In addition to that, he’ll also handle weekend morning weather broadcasting duties.
From what I’ve gathered, the move is a bit of a demotion for Jed, but not a total surprise.
With the recent departures of Cassie Heiter and Hannah Scholes, he’s been handling traffic reports and other tasks that usually go to the younger, prettier staffers, making him feel like a bit of an odd man out. He’s lucky he wasn’t pregnant, or News 9 would have probably fired him!
Nevertheless, Jed seems to be handling the transition with class. Here’s a video where he, Robin, and the Mighty Lacies all discuss it:
In addition to Jed’s reassignment, News 9 also announced that he will be replaced by Megan Gold—the geriatric pageant contestant who was crowned Miss Oklahoma in 2022. Remember her?
Jed’s a nice guy and all, but let’s be honest—you can’t really blame News 9 for making this move. TV is a visual medium, and something tells me Megan will be better at generating eyeballs and ratings than Jed ever could.
Plus, she lives in a retirement home, so she’ll have a built-in audience of viewers ready to go.
Anyway, we wish Jed the best of luck in his new role as News 9’s field meteorologist and hope he doesn’t get hit by too many hailstones.
We also wish Megan the best of luck providing traffic reports for people who don’t have Google Maps—and hope she doesn’t get hit on too many times by Dean Blevins.
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
